What do you need to install these Wire Railing Kits

Almost everything you’ll need for installation comes included with our stainless steel wire railing kits. The additional items you’ll want to have handy before installation include:

  • Power Drill and Drill Bits
  • Measuring Tape
  • Hammer
  • Wrench
  • Allen Key Set
  • Vise-Grips
  • Cable Cutters
  • Reciprocating Saw or Hack Saw
  • Safety Goggles
  • Pencil for marking

The first step to putting together your wire railing kit is to measure out where your cables will go. We suggest no more than three inches apart for each cable. With your pencil, mark your drill locations. Once you’ve drilled your holes with the appropriate drill bit, insert your threaded terminal fittings that come in our kits on one end, and on the other end insert our Stainless Steel Quick-Connect fittings. For the Quick-Connect, we recommend that you counterbore the fitting.

Next, you’ll bring the threaded terminals through the end post where you’ll attach a flat washer and a snug-grip washer nut. Connect the snug-grip nut until there is about a quarter-inch of thread exposed on the end. For this part, you’ll want to use vice grips to hold the terminal in place. Now, hold the Quick-Connect SS fitting with one hand while you pull the cable taught with your other hand. When you release the cable, the Quick-Connect will automatically lock in place.

Again, using your vice-grips, hold the threaded terminal in place while you use a 7/16” wrench to tighten the Snug-Grip washer nuts. You’ll know the cable is tight enough when they cannot flex more than four inches apart. Once the cables are tightened, use your hack saw or reciprocating saw to trim off the excess. Now, using an electric grinder you can now grind the cable ends flush with the grinding disk. Snap-on the provided end caps that come with our steel cable railing kit and you’re all set.

While stainless steel is stylish and sophisticated, fingerprints can undo the beauty of your stainless steel cable railing kits. That’s why we offer a high-quality cleaning solution to protect and beautify your railings. It is both a rust and stain remover that dissolves minor corrosion. In its place is a protective coating that will last for several months. This kit includes an 8-ounce spray-on rust and stain remover and a 4-ounce bottle of protectant.

Individual Cable End Fittings

If you have specific needs in stainless steel flanges or fittings for your cable, you’ve come to the right place. At BuyRailings we’ll help you design your project from start to finish, and that includes custom cable end fittings. For swaged fittings, we offer customized swaging services for a nominal charge.
